British City of Edinburgh Blackened Coat of Arms Uniform Button

a vintage civic type metal button. approx 1" diameter with fixed loop fitting on the reverse. appears to be brass underneath. the finish obscures any maker mark if there is one. i would guess for generic use including transport. most likely blackened for WW2. the button itself is probably older.
