a reasonable example of the first version of the medal of recompense from 1940 to 1950. approx 1.5" by 1.35" plus ribbon etc.The French Red Cross did not come into being until 1940 when the Société Française de Secours aux Blessés Militaires, the Association des Dames Françaises and the Union des Femmes de France merged under a decree issued by Marshal Pétain.  read more
